EGOFUGAL

「エゴフーガル：EGOFUGAL」。
この言葉は「エゴ」（個我）と、そこから遠ざかるという意味のラテン語「フーガル」を結びつけた言葉で、2001年秋にトルコ、イスタンブール市において開催された第7回イスタンブールビエンナーレのテーマである。

ビエンナーレで出品された作品の中から、映像作品を中心に、選んで東京オペラシティアートギャラリーでイスタンブール展とほぼ同時期に同じ作品を展示された。

第7回目となるビエンナーレは、初のアジア出身のキューレーター、長谷川祐子氏がアーティスティック・ディレクターに就任し、同氏のディレクションのもと、20世紀を総括し、21世紀を展望するアジアからの視点が提示された。

EGOFUGAL.
This word is a combination of "ego" and the Latin word "fugal," meaning to move away from it, and was the theme of the 7th Istanbul Biennial, held in Istanbul, Turkey, in the fall of 2001.

The same works were exhibited at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery at about the same time as the Istanbul exhibition.

For the 7th Biennial, Yuko Hasegawa, the first curator from Asia, was appointed artistic director, and under her direction, the Biennial presented an Asian perspective that summed up the 20th century and looked forward to the 21st century.
