Massive Change Massive Change illustrates the new inventions, technologies and events that are affecting humanity. The book is part of design theorist Bruce Mau's research and is intended to provoke debate about the future of design culture.
It explores the changing power of design in the contemporary world and extends the definition of design to the built environment, transport technologies, revolutionary materials, energy and information systems, and living organisms.
The book is divided into 11 heavily illustrated sections, covering key areas of change in contemporary society: cities and architecture, health and living, wealth and politics, and the military. Each section is interspersed with intriguing documentary images, introductions, essays, captions and interviews with leading thinkers, including engineers, designers, philosophers, scientists, architects, artists and writers.
The book is illustrated chronologically with important inventions and world events from 10 000 BC to the present day, making it an intellectually stimulating read.
