OCCUPIED TERRITORY

リン・コーエンは国際的に有名な写真家であり、家庭内や仕事場での印象的な写真を発表している。通常モノクロで撮影される彼女のシーンは、フラットな照明と人の気配がないことが特徴である。これらの写真は、時にユーモラスであり、時に不穏である。
1987年、Apertureはリン・コーエンの最初のモノグラフ『Occupied Territory』を出版した。
コーエンは教室、科学実験室、試験施設、待合室など、機能が美学に勝る室内空間にカメラを向けている。
部屋は無人である。そこにある設備、機器、また空間そのものが持つ意味が、その無人であることで際立ってくる。

Lynn Cohen is an internationally renowned photographer who produces striking images of people in their homes and at work. Usually shot in black and white, her scenes are characterized by flat lighting and a lack of human presence. These photographs are sometimes humorous and sometimes disturbing.
In 1987, Aperture published Lynn Cohen's first monograph, Occupied Territory.
Cohen turns her camera on classrooms, science labs, testing facilities, waiting rooms, and other interior spaces where function trumps aesthetics.
The rooms are unoccupied. The meaning of the facilities, equipment, and the space itself is accentuated by the fact that it is unoccupied.
This is where the meaning of "Occupied Territory" comes in. What is occupied?
